Activities
The Samoa Ports Authority was established in 1999 under the Ports Authority Act to operate as a self-funding, commercially viable organization, required to ensure that the ports and maritime needs of the nation are met in an effective, efficient and timely manner. It manages two ports at Apia (Upolu) and Asau (Savaii).
SPA is also subject to the:
- Public Bodies (Performance and Accountability) Act 2001
- Public Bodies (Performance and Accountability) Amendment Act 2015
- Public Bodies (Performance and Accountability) Act Regulations 2002 and
- Composition of Boards of Public Bodies Act 2012.
SPA is governed by a board of directors that is responsible to the Minister of Public Enterprises.
Vision and Mission
SPA’s vision is “To be the most efficient, safe and secure Small Island State Airport in airport operations in the Region”. Its mission is “To comply fully with all applicable standards and practices to sustain and enhance effective service delivery”.
Community Service Obligations
SPA did not receive CSO funding to operate its non-commercial port at Asau in 2014, but did receive a ST3m government grant.
